At Dance Directions, the safety of our staff, students, and families is our top priority. We are committed to upholding Child Protection laws and policies both within the studio and during public performances, as well as in the online space (website and social media).

Hazards and Reporting

Teachers are responsible for immediately reporting any hazards (e.g., spills, leaks, sharp objects) within the studio that could lead to an accident or injury. Promptly address and report any unsafe conditions to the studio so that we can take appropriate action.

Food and Drink Policy

All food and drink (other than bottled water) must be kept in the designated staff/student waiting area and is not permitted in the studio space.

High-Risk Activities

High-risk activities, such as acrobatic tricks, aerial stunts, or cheerleading tosses, may only be performed under the direct supervision of the class teacher and must utilize proper protective equipment (e.g., crash mats, harnesses, padding). As an educator, it is your responsibility to ensure students do not attempt tricks beyond their abilities, prioritizing their safety at all times.

Safe Dance Practice

Safe dance practice must be adhered to in all classes, regardless of age. This includes ensuring a proper warm-up and stretch session, even if time is limited.

Transporting Students

Faculty and staff are discouraged from privately transporting students to or from classes, rehearsals, or performances, except in emergencies. If you must transport a student, prior written consent from the parents/guardians and permission from the director is required.

Injury or Illness

• In the event of a student injury or illness during class, stop the session immediately to assist the student.

• Notify the studio director and the student's parents as soon as possible, and if necessary, call an ambulance.

• All injuries and illnesses must be recorded in an incident report for documentation purposes. This can be found on the resources page on this website.

Appropriate Music and Costumes

The directors and staff are educated about the impact of inappropriate music and costume choices. We are committed to ensuring that children in all of our dance routines are not exposed to songs or costumes that could be considered inappropriate, such as those containing sexist, explicit, violent, racist, homophobic, or criminal content. We will always strive to select age-appropriate music and costumes that promote a positive and respectful environment.

Studio Property

Dance Directions is not responsible for stolen or misplaced property on the premises. We encourage students, staff, and families to avoid bringing valuable items into the studio.
