Communication

At Dance Directions, we prioritize clear and effective communication. We are committed to responding to all inquiries within 48 hours, ensuring that no query goes unanswered. Our friendly office team can be reached at 604-848-9060 for phone calls or 778-800-5599 for text messages during office hours, which are listed at the beginning of this handbook.

Email Communication

Our primary method of communication is email. You will receive regular newsletters and important updates via email, so please ensure that the studio has an up-to-date email address that you check regularly.

Facebook Faculty Group

We also use Facebook as a way to stay in touch with all our faculty members. You will be added to our faculty group chat where we will send out weekly updates on Sunday evenings or Mondays.

Notice Board

Important information, dates, and studio details are posted on our notice board in the lobby. Please take a moment to check it when you arrive for class, so you're always up-to-date on studio news.

Handling Parent/Student Inquiries

If a student or parent contacts you via your personal phone number or social media, we ask that you direct them to our studio email for any questions or concerns. You are welcome to use the following message as a template:

“Hi (NAME), Thank you so much for reaching out. The studio would be happy to answer any questions. Please email [email protected], call 604-848-9060, or text 778-800-5599 during office hours, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Have a wonderful day!”

Sick/Holiday Leave

We understand that emergencies and illness can sometimes arise unexpectedly. However, to ensure minimal disruption to our classes, we ask that you follow the procedures outlined below when requesting time off or reporting an absence.

Reporting an Absence

If you are unable to teach due to illness or an emergency, you must call Cierra at least 12 hours before your scheduled class when possible.

Text messages, social media, or email are not acceptable methods for reporting an absence—please ensure you call as soon as possible.

Arranging a Substitute

It is the teacher’s responsibility to arrange a qualified substitute and provide them with all necessary class materials, including music and lesson plans.

If you need assistance finding a substitute, please contact the studio. We have a list of recommended and reliable teachers available.

Planned Time Off

If you have upcoming obligations, holidays, or events that will require time off, you must notify the studio at least two weeks in advance.

A Time Off Request Form must be completed, which can be found in the Teacher Portal.

You are responsible for securing a substitute teacher in advance and ensuring they have a smooth handover.

Minimizing Disruptions

Last-minute absences place a significant strain on the studio, especially if there is limited time to arrange coverage. In all cases, we appreciate as much notice as possible.

If you need assistance or recommendations for substitute teachers, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re happy to help!
